We had a fantastic response to the program, with some great tracks added by dozens of artists. You can listen to all our entrants and find your new favourites!

First place

B of Briz

B of Briz is a masked rapper and producer in Bristol making cerebral, feminist, and just-plain-weird alt hip-hop.

"I’m so entirely delighted to be given this incredible honour, with Future Sound of Bristol, and to receive these amazing prizes from Audiotarky and Factory Studios." said B "I’m fully dancing around my living room, and hatching plans to make my first full-length album the weirdest and most wonderful feminist alternative hip hop album Bristol has ever seen!"

"I really hope this prize can help my music find more ears and hearts and minds."

"Being the Future Sound of Bristol warms my West Country heart, precisely because I know this is a journey I’m taking in a community of immensely creative and open people."

"It means such a lot to be honoured in this way by people working to support Bristol’s music scene, emerging artists and new music, and with a real passion for enriching Bristol’s cultural life, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear my album when it’s finished!"

Second place

Lorcán

Lorcáns music traverses the space between dream pop, ambient and indie rock. His songs are worlds of contrasts, with mellow baritone vocals against crunching drum machines and crisp ethereal synths twinkling over jangling vibrato guitar. Lorcán’s music captures the transience of lived experience, celebrating both the mundane and the dreamlike aspects of life.

"Wow don't feel I have the words to express how happy I am. I always have a natural leaning towards thinking that winning things like this is a bit beyond little old me - looks like I'm forced to change that mindset."

"Thanks so much to Audiotarky, Factory Studios and all the judges for believing in me and my music, and of course to all the lovely people who listened. There where so many amazing artists who applied to this, many of whom friends, so it is an honor to be among the winners this time around."

"This prize is going to make such a difference to my life and music. Can't wait to share what I do with it all."

Third place winners

Dwell

Dwell

Embracing an almost trance-like musical style with an exquisite echo chamber of strings, Jazz instrumentation, and guitars.

With a tour on the horizon, Dwell will use the prize money to cover touring and recording costs. They'll also use the rehearsal time to practise their newly written tracks, ahead of the tour.

Emily Magpie

Emily Magpie

Emily is a Dream Pop artist and producer from Bristol who has been featured on, and championed by the likes of Tom Robinson, at BBC Radio 6.

Emily Magpie will use her prize money to support the promotion of a three-track EP, due to be released on Def Pressé in Spring 2023.

Heyouki

Heyouki

Starting as a trio in 2019, Heyouki is a nine-piece Neo-Soul and Contemporary Jazz band experimenting with simple yet deep-in-feel Hip Hop rhythms. The Bristol collective has grown into a rich group of musical collaborators.

They plan to use the prize money to pay for recording sessions with a professional sound engineer.

You can also listen to all our entrants - they are all great!

What is it?

Future Sound of Bristol is a grant program to help fund music-related creative endeavours for emerging artists and labels in and around Bristol, UK.

Organised by Audiotarky, a Bristol-based ethical music streaming platform, and Factory Studios, a creative space in the heart of Bristol.

Why?

The pandemic and the cost of living crisis have had a significant impact on artists and labels, making it difficult for them to pursue their craft.

Future Sound of Bristol aims to provide financial support to these music creatives and showcase the exceptional musical talent that the city has to offer.
